Modern slavery is a serious crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It includes practices such as slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking, all of which involve the deprivation of a person’s liberty for personal or commercial gain.
The Learn Tree maintains a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all business dealings and relationships, and to implementing and enforcing robust systems and controls to ensure that modern slavery does not occur anywhere within our business or supply chains.
We are also committed to transparency in our operations and in our efforts to address modern slavery across our supply chains, consistent with the disclosure requirements of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
We expect the same high standards from all contractors, suppliers, and business partners. Our contracts include explicit prohibitions against the use of forced, compulsory, or trafficked labour, or anyone held in slavery or servitude, whether adults or children. We also expect our suppliers to uphold these standards throughout their own supply chains.
This policy applies to all individuals working for The Learn Tree or on our behalf in any capacity, including employees at all levels, officers, and independent contractors.
The board of directors at The Learn Tree has overall responsibility for ensuring compliance with legal and ethical obligations, and that all individuals under our control follow this policy.
The legal and finance teams hold primary day-to-day responsibility for implementing the policy, monitoring its effectiveness, handling queries, and auditing internal control systems to ensure they counter modern slavery effectively.
Line managers are responsible for ensuring that employees reporting to them understand and comply with this policy and receive appropriate training on modern slavery and risks within supply chains.
Preventing, detecting, and reporting modern slavery is the responsibility of everyone working for or under the control of The Learn Tree. Employees must notify their line manager or the legal team as soon as they suspect a conflict with this policy.
Concerns about modern slavery at any tier of our business or supply chains should be raised promptly. Employees can report issues through their line manager or the legal team.
If there is uncertainty about whether certain practices, working conditions, or treatment of workers constitute modern slavery, employees are encouraged to raise the matter with their line manager or legal team.
We promote openness and support anyone who raises genuine concerns in good faith. No individual will face detrimental treatment for reporting suspicions of modern slavery in our business or supply chains.
Training on this policy, and on modern slavery risks in supply chains, will be provided as required for staff based on their roles. Employees will learn to identify signs of exploitation and understand how to report suspected cases.
Any employee found to have breached this policy will face disciplinary action, up to and including summary dismissal for gross misconduct. The Learn Tree may also terminate commercial relationships with suppliers, contractors, or other business partners if they breach this policy or are found to be involved in modern slavery.
